Our Team

Open Channel Projects is made up of those dedicated to advancing healthcare in the hard-to-reach places. We could not exist without our local partners and many supporters.

Below are our founders, just three of the many people that make

our projects possible.

Derek Lubetkin, MD

Founder

Dr. Lubetkin is an emergency medicine physician dedicated to emergency care education and development in rural and low-resource settings.

He completed his emergency medicine specialty training at the Brown University Emergency Medicine Residency Program. During his time at Brown, he was a member of the EM Global Health Track, the Brown Residency International/Global Health Training Pathway (BRIGHT), and conducted research and educational programming in Nepal, Rwanda, and Kenya.

Following residency, he completed a fellowship in global emergency medicine at the Coastal Maine Global Health Fellowship, where he collaborated with the Mae Tao Clinic to support emergency care capacity building and the development of a dedicated emergency care unit. It was during his time along the Myanmar-Thai border and working closely with the founder of Emergency Care Support Network - Myanmar (ECSN) that the idea of Open Channel Projects formalized.
